Coach Novak's girls' basketball camp is a combination of lots of fun and learning the fundamentals of the game. Your athlete will come home with drills to improve their ball handling, shooting, passing, rebounding, and defense, and will leave camp with the tools to become great players and effective teammates. Fencing Camp (Beginning)

Fencing has been part of the Olympic Games since its revival in 1896. It is considered the “European martial art" and allows participants to develop coordination, balance, and flexibility, making it an ideal means of keeping fit for all ages and abilities. The SPA Beginnning Fencing Camp is a program designed for Grade 5-10 students with less than one year or no experience. Come join us to have a fun summer learning fast and elegant sword fighting!

Coach: Sasha Pai has been the SPA head fencing coach since 2015. He has 16 years fencing experience and 7 years coaching experience. He won the National Taiwan Championship in 2015. He also coaches fencing at the University of Minnesota and Yinghua Academy.

Fencing Camp (Advanced)

The SPA Advanced Fencing Camp is led by the SPA head fencing coach, Sasha Pai. The camp is open to students with one or more years fencing experience, and will include all three weapons; foil, saber and epee. Come join us to enhance your fencing skills and strength!

Coach: Sasha Pai has been the SPA head fencing coach since 2015. He has 16 years fencing experience and 7 years coaching experience. He won the National Taiwan Championship in 2015. He also coaches fencing at the University of Minnesota and Yinghua Academy.

Fitness Camp (Session I)

The SPA Summer Fitness Camp will allow student-athletes to work on their athleticism and fitness with a professional strength and conditioning coach. These camps will prepare athletes for their specific sports by working on the 10 athletic skills: power, speed, agility, quickness, balance, flexibility, stamina, endurance, coordination, and accuracy. Athletes will receive customized programming based on their sport and individual athletic needs while working in a group environment that will foster teamwork, camaraderie, and work ethic. Athletes will also receive educational materials regarding nutrition and recovery. It is highly recommended that athletes attend 3-4 days a week for 3 or more weeks to see the full benefit of training. This camp is open to SPA athletes from any sport as well as athletes from other schools.

Boys' Hockey Camp

The SPA boys' hockey strength and conditioning summer program will allow student-athletes to work on their strength, speed, agility, and explosive power. This program will be taught by a NASM certified strength and conditioning coach. Participants will learn proper technique, and understand the fundamental movements for a variety of multi-joint Olympic lifts along with the training principles being used. The focus of this program is to develop overall strength and increase athletic performance.

Schedule: Tuesday and Thursdays between June 10-27 and July 8-30 from 7-8 a.m. (weight room training) and Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays between June 10-27 and July 8-30 from 4-5 p.m. (on ice training)

Girls' Hockey Camp

The professional on-ice training session will concentrate on hockey skills such as stick-handling, pass­ing, shooting, angling, cycling, gap control, creating time and space, and reading and reacting. We will also end each hockey skills session with small area games. Each day will be dedicated to a specific skill over the other. After each session, we will provide a professional weight training program. The summer program is meant to enhance the players' skills but we feel it is also a tremendous way to build relationships between teammates through hard work!

Players should wear athletic shoes, have knee pads, and a water bottle each day.

Coach: Pam Bersie has coached at SPA for seven years in addition to being a club coach at M1 Volleyball. Coach Pam will be assisted by SPA Upper School volleyball players.
