M. Ed., University of Minnesota
Mary Gallagher co-teaches with Sara Irwin in 1/2B. Before finding a professional home at SPA, Mary had a broad range of teaching experiences -- globally and locally. Mary spent ten years as a teacher at international schools in Bulgaria, South Korea, Malaysia, and Austria. In the Twin Cities, Mary taught at Hamline University, Nova Classical Academy, and Island Lake Elementary School.
Mary earned a B.A. from St. Olaf College in English and Women’s Studies and an M.Ed. in Teaching from the University of Minnesota. She holds teaching licenses in elementary education, reading, English as a second language, and language arts.
In three book clubs – including one with her daughter - Mary loves to read and talk about books. "I love how literature connects us - to faraway lands, to people across time, to creatures in the sea and soaring above it, and to understanding big ideas like empathy and equality," she says. When not on adventures in the classroom or in a book, Mary loves to explore museums, cuisines, nature, and new places, especially with her family and friends.
