M.A. Education & Sociology, University of Braunschweig, Germany
Jutta Ramme Crowder has taught Upper School German since 1993. An exceptional educator, Frau Crowder was voted Minnesota German Teacher of the Year in 2002 and in 2007 was selected by former student Bryce Meredig as an influential teacher who helped prepare him to win Stanford's Frederick Emmons Terman Engineering Scholastic Award. “I work closely with each student and with each class, adjusting to their interests, strengths and needs,” she says of her teaching style. “I keep a sense of discovery and joy in the classroom while continuously challenging students.” Her academic interests include cross-cultural studies, and global voices in literature and cinema. In Germany, Crowder co-founded and was director of a private school and has taught locally at Macalester College and Breck School. She maintains close ties with her native country by coordinating a student exchange program with the Heisenberg Gymnasium, a school in Hamburg. She holds a B.A. and an M.A. in education from the Technische Universitat Carolo-Wilhelmina in Braunschweig, Germany. She is a member of the Association for Curriculum and Supervision, the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages, and the American Association of Teachers of German. Frau Crowder is the author of Ramme/Riese: Spiele fuer Viele (Games for cooperation and team work), published in 1981. She has traveled widely has in Europe as well as to Asia, Australia and the Middle East.
