Our Faculty

Our Upper School teachers blend a passion for teaching with disciplinary expertise and a genuine compassion and affection for the young adults who are their students. Upper School students largely view their teachers as subject experts and mentors rather than authoritarian figures, a view that makes the ultimate transition to college much smoother.

80% of our Upper School teachers hold advanced degrees in addition to the baccalaureate degree, and almost half of those teachers hold a doctorate or terminal degree in their field of study.

Kristin Collier joined the SPA English department in 2018 as a full time faculty member. Kristin earned a bachelor's degree in English and Film and Video Studies from the University of Michigan, an MA in education from CUNY-Lehman College, and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Minnesota.  She began her teaching career in New York, as a Teach for America corps member in the Bronx.  Following that, she taught English for five years at Chicago Bulls College Prep (a Noble Network charter school), and for the past three years, she has been teaching writing and literature classes at the University of Minnesota.
