More than 300 members of the SPA community gathered on the evening of Saturday, October 12, to celebrate the Grand Opening of multiple new and renovated spaces in the Upper School. The event marks the completion of the Hugh K. Schilling Math and Science Center in the fall of 2018 and the opening of the Upper School Humanities Wing and the renovated Old Main in spring 2019.
All current and former parents, students, alumni/ae, faculty, and staff were invited to the event, which opened with remarks by Head of School Bryn Roberts and proceeded in an "open house" format, with mingling and student demonstrations throughout the Upper School. Demonstrations included performances SPA's a cappella group and orchestra ensemble, a debate roundtable, a math team "mini tournament," exhibits by World Language students and students in the Advanced Science Research class, a "Poetry Out Loud" workshop, and hands-on demonstrations by the Robotics team and Engineering students. The event was also the kickoff of the Community Phase of the Building Futures capital campaign. The Community Phase will offer opportunities for support to those who have not yet participated in the campaign. For more information, contact Dorothy Goldie, Director of Institutional Advancement.
