The Spartan boys' basketball team played their last conference game of the 2018-19 season on Wednesday, February 27 and the team did not disappoint with a well-fought win over the rival Blake Bears, 59-54.
The Spartans had it going from three-point range early as Liam Will '20, Adam Holod '21, and Andrew Johnson '19 all knocked down threes to give SPA a 15-5 lead in the opening minutes of the game. Holod would hit three more threes in the first half to give the Spartans a 40-31 lead at the break. Blake ramped up the pressure in the second half and clawed their way back into the game but thankfully, SPA was able to slow the game down and handle the pressure. With 20 seconds remaining, the Spartans led by 3 points. Will Christakos '19 got fouled and went to the line and knocked down one of his two free throws to make it a two-possession game. After one final defensive stop, the Spartans were able to secure the victory. Adam Holod finished in double figures once again with a game-high 25 points, and a perfect 5 of 5 from three-point range.
The Spartans are back in action on Friday, March 1 as they travel to New Life Academy for their last regular season game. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Go Spartans!
