On Thursday, February 14, 2019, SPA senior Peter Moore skied to a Nordic State Championship and into SPA history. Moore won the Nordic title in a thrilling finish, the first time a boy has been crowned champion in the school's history. Nordic star and recent Olympic qualifier Annie Hart '10 won the girls' title in 2009.
“I’ve been thinking about this since sixth grade,” Moore said in the Pioneer Press article about his State title run. “It’s every Minnesota high school skier’s dream to win this race, and it’s just incredible.”
Peter's winning pursuit time of 30 minutes, 16 seconds was one second better than second-place Alex Nemeth of Sartell-St. Cloud Cathedral. Mora junior Cooper Lennox was just behind Nemeth in third, and Garrett Beckrich from Grand Rapids--last year's State winner--was in fourth, four seconds behind Moore. Mounds Park Academy’s Matthew Bourne and Henry Snider finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Congratulations Peter and go Spartans!
