On Saturday, January 19, boys' basketball won a thriller in overtime against the perennially tough Christ's Household of Faith team. The final score was 59-57.
The Spartans got off to a slow start in the first-half and found themselves trailing by double-digits in the opening minutes of the game. The team was able to chip away at the lead with the help of strong shooting by senior guard Andrew Johnson. In the second half, the Spartans worked hard to continue to narrow the gap, even taking the lead from time to time. With only seconds remaining, SPA led by 2 points but gave up a bucket that forced overtime. The game went back in forth in overtime but the Spartans were able to take a 2 point lead with only 5 seconds remaining thanks to some clutch free throws by senior forward Ryan Moore. Unlike the finals seconds of regulation, SPA put together a solid defensive stand in the final seconds and stopped CHOF from getting off a good shot to secure the victory.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday night as they face off against Mounds Park Academy at home at 7 p.m. -- Go Spartans!
