On Saturday, February 9, boys' hockey matched up against Red Wing for a non-conference game. The Wingers got off the block quicker than the Spartans, scoring all three of their goals in the first period. SPA did have one goal by junior Duncan Fleming but the team went into the first break down 3-1. In the second period, the Spartans fought back and narrowed Red Wing's lead on a goal by Michael Bagnoli '21 (assists from John Lynn and Nolan Gifford '19). It was the third period when the Spartans hit their stride, though. Two minutes into the final period, Gifford evened the playing field on a quick pass from Will Rathmanner '20. The Spartans then earned two quick goals on power plays: Gifford scored a second and Jake Hosszu '20 put the puck in the back of the net thanks to an assist by Fleming. Despite a final push by the Wingers, SPA won 5-3.
