On Tuesday, December 11, boys' varsity hockey hosted Eau Claire Memorial at home following a tough week of losses. The game started slowly with no goals for either team in the first period. After the break, Adam Zukowski '19 stepped up for the Spartans and got the team on the board with a great tip two minutes into the period. The middle three minutes of the second period saw a flurry of scoring activity from both teams. The first goal came from Zukowski which doubled SPA's score (2-0). Less than a minute later, Eau Claire Memorial answered the Spartans to cut SPA's lead in half (2-1). That did not last for long, however; one minute after Eau Claire's goal, Micheal Bagnoli '21 received a pass from the corner and blistered a quick wrist shot to bring the lead back to two (3-1). The third period saw tightly contested play with opportunities for both teams and a great defensive outing by the boys in blue and gold. At the end of the third, Jake Hosszu '20 earned a shorthanded, empty-net goal to cap off a successful game for the Spartans. SPA won 4-1. In addition to the goal scorers, junior goalie Thomas Kuriscak had an awesome game with four unbelievable saves which kept the Spartans in it. Duncan Fleming '20 also had a great night with three assists.
