Spartan Postseason update: Football headed to Section Finals, Volleyball to play in Quarterfinal

The regular season is coming to an end for many of our teams, and our Spartans are now gearing up for the postseason. See below for updated information about section competition and plan to join us to cheer on our student-athletes. Go Spartans!

 

Cross Country: 

- Section 4A Tournament | October 24 (Highland Golf Course)

On October 24, cross country competed at the Section 4A meet and earned great results. Congratulations to girls' cross country who qualified as a team for State after finishing second overall. The team included Taylor Barkwell '25, Sawyer Bollinger Danielson '25, Violet Benson '24, Becca Richman '23, Ingrid Johnson '24, Annie Hlavka '24, Addie Morrisette '21, Mia Schubert '21, and Isabel Toghramadjian '21. On the boys' side, Michael Moran '21 finished sixth overall and also qualified for the State meet as an individual. The Class A MSHSL State Meet is next Saturday, November 2 at St. Olaf College -- Go Spartans!


Football: 

- Section 5AAAA Tournament | October 22, 26 and November 1

The SMB Wolfpack is seeded #2 in the Section 5AAAA tournament. The team played their first game on Saturday, October 26 against Mound Westonka (#3) and won 35-14. Next up is the Section Final which will feature a tough match up between SPA and Benilde-St. Margaret (#1). Join us BSM at 7 p.m. and help us cheer the Wolfpack back to the State Tournament!


Soccer: 

Girls:

- Section 3A Tournament (October 7, 10, 12, 15, 17)

Girls' soccer is seeded #8 in Section 3A. The team won its first section game in a decisive 4-1 victory over Minneapolis Roosevelt on Thursday, October 10, before losing to Visitation (#1) on Saturday, October 12 in the Quarterfinals (3-0).

Boys:

- Section 3A Tournament (October 7, 10, 12, 15, 17)

Boys' soccer (seeded #9) won a decisive 3-0 victory over Twin Cities Academy in their first Section 3A game on Tuesday, October 8, and went on to win a 1-0 nailbiter against St. Thomas Academy on Thursday, October 10. The boys were knocked out of the tournament by the#1-seeded Holy Angels on Saturday, October 12, where they lost 5-1.

 Girls' Swimming and Diving: 

- Section 6AA Tournament

- Thursday, November 7 | Swim Prelims, 6 p.m.
- Friday, November 8 | Diving, 6 p.m.
- Saturday, November 9 | Swim Finals, 1 p.m.


 Girls' Tennis: 

- Section 4A Tournament

- Team Competition | October 3, 7, 10
- Individual Singles/Doubles Competition | Oct 11

In the Section 4A team tournament, girls' tennis won their way to the Section 4A Semifinals before falling to Breck. in the individual Section competition, the doubles team of Alessandra Costalonga '20 and Kate Hick '21 lost in the first round, as did singles player Maggie Fields '22.  The doubles team of Maya Choi '21 and Issy Weber '20 and singles player Elizabeth Trevathan '22 won their first round but lost in the second. Congratulations to our entire girls' tennis team on a great season!


Volleyball: 

- Section 4AA Tournament | October 23, 25, 29, 31 & November 2

The #7-seeded girls' volleyball team won their first game of the Section 4AA tournament on Friday, October 25 against the Minneapolis Roosevelt Teddies  (3-0). Next up: The girls' will play next in the Quarterfinal against Academy of Holy Angels (#2). Join us at AHA at 6 p.m. -- Go Spartans! 

More information will be added as teams are seeded and individuals/teams advance.
