The 2019 issue of SPA's Upper School IRIS ART +LIT magazine, SEEN/UNSEEN, has received a Gold Medal ranking with All Columbian Honors from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA). The CSPA is a program of the Columbia University School of Journalism, which sponsors national programming and competitions for high school journalists.

In the summary comments, the CSPA judges said that "IRIS ART+LIT is a dynamic journal delivered with graphics and texts that make a memorable, thematic statement. There is no repetition that allows for predictability, but rather each design can function as its own visual story. The voices are compelling, sometimes provocative in their messaging. IRIS ART+LIT is a sophisticated work of art that showcases the urgency of giving space to young talent. They have something to say, and this journal commands our attention."

"The art and lit magazine would not be possible without the incredible work produced in our English classrooms and Fine Arts studios," says Upper School faculty member Kathryn Campbell, who directs the student publications program in the Upper School. "It's an honor for our magazine to showcase such powerful student free expression."
