Each year, the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society sponsors the Mondale-Quie Essay Contest. The competition is open to Minnesota high school juniors and seniors and participating students have an opportunity to receive up to $1,000 in scholarship money as they examine the role of the judiciary in our society.

In this year's competition, students were asked to analyze the 14th Amendment and the Equal Protection Clause in the wake of the 150-year anniversary of its ratification. Thirty-two students in SPA's History of Law class participated in the writing contest and overall, Gabriel Konar-Steenberg '19 took first place and Lily Nestor '19 took third place. Gabriel and Lily will be awarded scholarship funds and honored at a luncheon hosted by the Court in May 2019. The essays were part of an assignment from our History of Law class.
