St. Paul Academy and Summit School is pleased to announce the appointment of Virginia Andres as SPA’s next Middle School Principal. Andres, who is currently the Principal of the Middle School and Chair of the PK-12 Art Department at O’Neal School in Southern Pines, North Carolina, impressed the search committee with her deep understanding of the world of Middle School, whether talking about students, the opportunities and challenges of the faculty, or the concerns and needs of the parent community.
Prior to beginning her work at O’Neal in 2016, Andres served as the Middle School Dean of Students at the Norwood School, a K-8 independent school in Bethesda, Maryland, which she also attended. Andres' administrative career is also informed by her experience as a classroom teacher; she has taught Middle School English and drama in addition to Lower School math and reading. Andres holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Science degree in educational supervision and administration from Johns Hopkins University.
Head of School Bryn Roberts notes that the search committee was universally enthusiastic about Virginia's candidacy, as was the larger Middle School community of faculty and parents. "Her commitment to developing strong relationships with students, faculty, parents, and staff was evident throughout her interviews, and will be a complement to our warm and welcoming Middle School culture," says Roberts, who also praises the hard work and diligence of the search committee: Dr. Cindy Richter, Assistant Head of School for Academic Programs; Dr. Jill Romans, Assistant Head of School for Student Development and Community Engagement; Paul Magee, Assistant Middle School Principal; Karen Dye, Director of Intercultural Life; and Middle School faculty members Tami Brass, Sam Howe, Diane Mancini, and Bobak Razavi.
Andres will officially start as Middle School Principal at SPA on July 1, 2019.
