SMB Wolfpack win Class 4A State Championship
Posted 11/26/2018 09:17AM

The SMB Wolfpack defeated the Willmar Cardinals in a 44-18 victory on Friday, November 23, to win the Class 4A State Championship at U. S. Bank Stadium. The Wolfpack, a cooperative team between SPA, Minnehaha Academy, and the Blake School, completed a 13-0 season and won the combined program’s first state title.

This was the first year in Wolfpack program history that the team has qualified for the state tournament; the program was founded in 2015. Prior to the cooperative team, SPA and Blake had gone to two state tournaments each, and Minnehaha none. But Wolfpack coach Collin Quinn noted after the state title game that the team is very much a single entity: “Those guys have been locked in all year, and they all love to compete, and they’re a family and really care about one another,” Quinn said. “And those have been the things that have kind of marked this team from the get go.”

The Wolfpack was a force to be reckoned with all year, going undefeated in the regular season and earning the right to go to the state tournament with a win over Benilde-St. Margaret. Their state run included victories over Delano in the quarterfinals, Waseca in the Semifinals, and finally Willmar to earn the state title. Read the Star Tribune recap of the championship game.
