Construction update: January/February 2018
McGough crews have now completely enclosed the building exterior with temporary plastic covering, which allows them to heat the interior of the structure. The more moderate interior temperature has allowed the subcontractors to work on a number of interior mechanicals, including the metal wall framing, ventilation duct work, and fire sprinkler piping. The photo below shows the interior metal wall framing in the space that will become the Math Commons on the second floor of the Schilling Center.
In the coming weeks, construction activities will include:
- The continuation of the exterior brick installation
- Interior metal wall framing will be covered with sheet rock
- Installation of interior mechanicals: HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), duct work, and electrical conduit/wiring
- Window frames will be delivered and installed
Behind the scenes, our architects and contractors are reviewing the many, many product "shop drawings" for items such as cabinets, faucets, locks, and door hardware. Final decisions are being made about furniture, equipment, wayfinding signage and interior finishes.
