The arts are an important piece of day-to-day life in the Middle School. Music, theater, and the studio arts are woven into both the curriculum and co-curricular life.
Every Middle School student takes a music class every day in the ensemble of their choosing (band, orchestra, or choir) and all students perform in two concerts each year. Private music lessons are also available through the school, with instructors who specialize in teaching students of this age.
The Grade 6 studio art course covers various media and techniques; Grade 7 studio art courses introduce two-dimensional art techniques and three-dimensional ceramics. In Grade 8, students may opt to take elective courses in two- and three-dimensional art.
The required Grade 6 drama class prepares students for later electives in Grade 8, including acting, production and performance, and scriptwriting. The Middle School's three yearly theatrical productions are popular co-curricular activities, and auditions are open to all students.
This fall, the Middle School presented Alice in Wonderland! Due to in-person performance limitations, the fall play was shared in a special, digital premiere on Broadway On Demand on Friday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. The show was also available for on-demand streaming on Saturday, November 21.
2020-21 Middle School Performance and Arts Calendar
Due to COVID-19, there will be no live performances with audiences or public art galleries during the 2020-21 school year. Instead, the Arts Department has reimagined their annual performance/gallery schedule and are excited to share recordings of the various ensembles, virtual gallery shows, and more (see below)!
Check back often to see new performances from our music ensembles, theatre department, and art students.
