SMB Wolfpack comes from behind in Section 5 Championship to return to State

Congratulations to our defending Class 4A State Champion football team who competed in the Section 5 Championship against Benilde-St. Margaret's on Friday, November 1 and punched their ticket for the State Tournament for the second year in a row.

Friday night's game was not an easy one for the SMB Wolfpack, a co-op between SPA, Minnehaha, and Blake. SMB got off to a strong start and led the game in the first quarter, 14-0. The team's lead did not last long, however, and at halftime, the Wolfpack found themselves behind 21-14 for the first time all season.

In the second half, Benilde received the football first and increased their lead to 13 points. The Wolfpack did not let the deficit rock their confidence, however. In the final 25 minutes of play, SMB's quarterback Jalen Suggs threw three touchdown passes to lead the comeback rally. The go-ahead touchdown came in the final 60 seconds of play after a 61-yard scramble by Suggs which set up a 17-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion. The Red Knights made one final push in the final 45 seconds of the game but their season came to an end on a game-clinching interception by Suggs in the final seconds.
