Fencing Project

Neighborhood Update: December 16, 2021

To our Randolph Campus neighbors,

We want to update our neighbors on the progress of SPA’s fencing project and the new protocols around community access to our athletic fields, track, and playground. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we develop and implement these new procedures; we have been working diligently to provide access to neighbors whenever possible.

Below is an overview of the policies and protocols that will go into effect on Monday, January 3, 2022, when SPA returns from its two-week Winter Break. Signage reflecting these policies will be installed on the fencing around the fields over break.

  • During the school year (mid-August to mid-June) the community is welcome to use the grounds for recreation on weekdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. or dusk (whichever is earlier) when school events/activities are not taking place, and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or dusk (whichever is earlier) when school events/activities are not taking place.
  • During the summer (mid-June to mid-August) the community is welcome to use the grounds from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or dusk (whichever is earlier) when school activities are not taking place.
  • Dogs will not be permitted on school grounds at any time beginning on Monday, January 3, 2022.
  • Entry to school grounds will be on the north side of the fields at the athletic field entry gate off the Drake Arena parking lot near the tennis courts. We understand that some of our neighbors are accustomed to entering the fields from the south side of our grounds on Hartford and/or the east side of campus on Davern, and we regret the inconvenience that this single entry may cause. Our internal security team and insurance advisors, however, are in strong agreement that a single point of entry to the fields in close proximity to the school building is a safety and security best practice to which the school must adhere.

Please know that these changes represent many hours of discussion with our external advisors and internal teams, and are undertaken with the integrity and security of the school community and physical plant foremost in mind. Within those parameters, we are eager that our neighbors feel both welcome and safe while using our grounds for recreation.

If you have questions or concerns, we encourage you to use the feedback form on this website. You may also contact Seamus Glewwe, SPA Security Manager, or Ami Berger, SPA Director of Communications.

Thank you,

Bryn S. Roberts, Head of School
