Virtual Art Gallery

Together and Apart

Together and Apart features two St. Paul Academy and Summit School art teachers: Joy Liberman and Daryn Lowman. The work created for this show represents two personal approaches to finding new directions, attempting to push the lens on the powerful reality of experiencing togetherness (family, friends, humanity) while apart, and the new personal emotions of finding your own part and contributions to the whole.

We hope you enjoy the virtual gallery and spend time exploring Liberman and Lowman's individual artist pages (below). The gallery will be available online from November 6, 2020 to January 15, 2021, with a virtual opening reception on Friday, November 6 from 5-7 p.m. online.

If interested in purchasing work from Together and Apart, please visit Joy Liberman's artist website and Daryn Lowman's artist website.

"It’s easy, in light of an unprecedented global event, to curl up at home and let emotions—fear; anxiety; anger—cast a fog over the once-vibrant edges of our lives. Easier still to let this fog turn to lethargy, to “when this finally ends I’m going to…”

It’s March 17th, 2020. My husband informs me of his success: He’s managed to get a full refund on our Spring Break travel plans. Success? I think to myself. Yes—success, because the world has just stopped and people are losing jobs right and left and I’m here thinking about a vacant cabaña in Mexico.

And maybe it’s this realization that has me filming videos and prepping panels, that’s punching a hole through isolation’s wall..."

31 Teapots

"I did not set out to make 31 teapots – however, as I began considering the layout for this 2 – person show it dawned on me that I enjoy making teapots.

As I consider these details I begin to build on connections to the teapot and to the domestic existence we experienced in the last 6 months..."
