Football (Co-Op)

The SMB Wolfpack is having another solid season: the team is currently 2-2, with the two losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents. The team's most recent victory came on September 16 against DeLaSalle; the Wolfpack dominated in every facet of the game and won 44-0. Spartan athletes have performed exceptionally well on the cooperative team with Blake and Minnehaha: Captain Joey Stoplestad '23 leads the team in tackles and is 12th in the state in total tackles and 16th in the state in tackles for a loss. Fellow captain Brody Rindelaub '23 is 47th in the state in tackles and 15th in the state in tackles for a loss. Coach Goodwin also notes strong performances from SPA player Sam Murphy '24, who has started four games at guard for the Wolfpack and is dominating his opponents in the run game; and Connor Overgaard ‘24, who leads the team in punt returns and punt return yardage.

Boys’ Soccer

With a 3-3-3 record so far this season, Head Coach Max Lipset is excited about the team's potential for the remainder of the year. The boys' most recent victory was a 2-1 victory against Hiawatha Collegiate and the team has also picked up big wins over St. Thomas Academy and St. Croix Lutheran. Senior and captain Cooper Danielson '23 leads the Spartans in total goals this season with eleven, and Coach Lipset will continue to rely on him and fellow seniors and captains Nathan Cohen ‘23 and Yash Kshirsagar ‘23 for their leadership on and off the field.

Girls’ Soccer

Girls’ Soccer is having another solid season under first-year Head Coach Aileen Guiney. The team is currently 5-2-3, with a big 3-2 victory over IMAC rival Breck on September 22. Forward and 2021 All-State honoree Sawyer Danielson ‘25 leads the team in total goals with 8 on the year; Coach Guiney also notes strong performances from Clare Ryan Bradley ‘26 and Elizabeth Tuttle ‘26 who have been great on the attack while also contributing goals this season. Finally, Guiney credits her defensive line of Lucia Gonzalez ‘26, Annie Zhang ‘25, Aurelia Meza ‘24, and Heidi Deuel ‘23 who have all been outstanding allowing only 14 total goals this season.

As of September 29, the Sparks Swimming and Diving team has competed in six meets this season. The team has relied on captains Elena Sjaastad ’23 and Linnea Cooley ’23 for leadership and experience which they will need heading into their final regular season conference meet against an undefeated St. Paul Central team on Friday, October 15th at Humboldt High School.

Girls' Tennis

Girls’ Tennis is having a strong season this fall with an 8-3 overall record.
