Student publications win awards, including two Best of Show honors at Convention and Rita Li '24 honored as NSPA Leadership Award Scholarship winner

At the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) convention in Kansas City in April The Rubicon and Iris: Art + Lit were honored as Pacemaker Finalists: The Rubicon was announced as an Online Pacemaker Winner and is one of only twelve news sites in the country to be recognized with a Pacemaker honor this year.

Convention Best of Show Awards:

• Iris: Art + Lit - Art and Literature Magazine - 4th Place
• The Rubicon - Newspaper - 6th Place

Additionally, JEA Journalist of the Year State winners were celebrated at the convention, and Rita Li '24 our Minnesota JOY received her national certificate. Li was also named the NSPA Leadership Award Scholarship winner. In an excerpt from Li she had this to say about her experience working on the Rubicon: "In a world where others may judge me based on my background, I found my place in journalism that recognizes my voice as a unique form of power speaking for marginalized groups to bring true equality for all. Through Rubicon, I have grown into a compassionate and open-minded leader who expresses my vulnerability at times to connect more deeply with my peers."
