Spartan Snapshot: Overgaard sisters shine at 2026 MSHSL Nordic Ski Championships

There are wins — and then there are unforgettable moments that define a season, or even a career.

This year, sisters Alyda Overgaard ’28 and Maren Overgaard ’26 gave their team exactly that in the girls Nordic team sprint relay at the Minnesota State High School League championships. The dynamic duo blazed through the course in 14:20.30, finishing first and earning 159 total points in a commanding performance.

Head Coach Max Lundgren shared his admiration for the sisters’ performance: “The skiing was phenomenal, and Alyda has gotten so good at classic to support the team this year. Maren analyzed every inch of the course the night before, like Norwegian cross-country skier Johannes Klæbo. As she flew across the finish line, all I could think about was how amazing it has been to coach her since 7th grade.”

Maren’s own words capture just how meaningful this finish was. Reflecting on her final high school sprint, she told StribVarsity, “Part of it was knowing this was my last race, but getting to do this with Alyda made it so much more special.”

Congratulations, Alyda and Maren! Go Spartans!
