Spartan Postseason Update: Spartan Tennis Crowned State Champion

Baseball received the #5 seed in section 4AA and began section competition with two victories: a 5-4 victory over the #12 seeded Nova Knights and a 3-1 victory over the #4 seeded, LMAC Titans. In their third round of section play SPA fell to the #8 seed, Mounds Park Academy 11-3, and in the elimination portion of the section 4AA bracket SPA fell 4-6 to Roosevelt. Baseball finishes the season 11-12 overall and 7-3 in conference competition.

Boys' Golf

In the second round of section 4AA competition on June 2, Connor Overgaard '24 shot 81 (158 over two days) good for a fifth-place finish at the section tournament. Connor represented SPA at the state tournament at Ridges of Sand Creek in Jordan on June 14th.

Girls' Golf

In section 4AA competition that began on May 31, Nikola Barkwell '23 advanced to the second round after shooting 97. In the second round, Barkwell shot 96 (193 over two days) which was good for 15th overall and just short of a state tournament berth.

Boys' Lacrosse

TrIMAC lacrosse received the #9 seed in Section 3A and upset the #8 seed, East Ridge to begin section competition winning 10-6. In the second round, the team played the #1 seed, Woodbury, and lost 17-4 ending their season 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference competition.

Girls' Lacrosse

Girls' Lacrosse received the #9 seed in Section 3A and defeated the #8 seeded St. Paul Lacrosse Bobcats 12-11 in the opening round. In the second round of section competition, SPA fell to a tough Gentry Warriors team ending their inaugural season 5-7 overall.


Spartan softball received the #7 seed in Section 4AAA and played two tough opponents in what was a double-elimination tournament. SPA fell 11-1 against Hill-Murray and 17-2 against Totino-Grace. SPA finished their season 5-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

Boys' Tennis

After a phenomenal season of team tennis, the SPA boys' tennis team was crowned Class A State champions on Wednesday, June 8. The Spartans beat a strong Breck team 5-2 to take the title. On June 10, the SPA doubles team of Leo Benson '24/Maik Nguyen '24 fell in the state semifinals to a duo from Rochester 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, but were able to rally to win the third-place match 7-6, 6-2 over a duo from Fridley.

Track & Field

At the 1AA State final 800 meter dash, Jack Hlavka '22 finished 7th running 2:00.76 after running a personal best time and SPA section school record of 1:58.16 on opening day.
