Student journalists from Ibid yearbook, Iris: Art + Lit, The Rubicon/RubicOnline, and the Writing for Publication class traveled to St. Louis, MO for the JEA/NSPA National Journalism Convention from November 10-13, 2022.
NSPA Best of Show
The Best of Show contest was competitive and featured the best publications in the country. Overall, SPA came home with three Best of Show awards.
- 6th Place: Newspaper - The Rubicon
- 7th Place: The 2022 Ibid, “You INSPIRE me” - Ibid. This is the first time in Ibid history that our yearbook has taken home a national Best of Show award.
- 7th Place: Iris: Art + Lit magazine: Literary Art Magazine - “hue”
NSPA Individual Awards
SPA had two projects ultimately recognized with awards at the convention.
- Honorable Mention: Best Use of Social Media: Leona Barocas '23
- Social Media Promotion for work @ibidspa on Instagram: This is the first time in Ibid history that a yearbook specialist has been a finalist for an NSPA Individual Award
- 5th Place: Design of the Year - Georgia Ross ’25 & PJ Bohjanen ’25
- Newspaper Page/Spread: May Sports
Write-Offs
While in St. Louis, seven of our journalists competed in National Student Media Contests, which are on-site opportunities where participants walk into a room and have two hours to get the information that they need to produce copy and turn it in on a deadline. With over 1100 entries, JEA awarded 75 superior, 168 excellent, and 266 honorable mentions; our journalists brought home four awards:
