Congratulations to the seventeen members of the SPA Class of 2026 who have earned national recognition in this year's National Merit competition. Five seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists, and another twelve have been named Commended Students. The 17 seniors represent 19% of the Class of 2026.
The five Semifinalists are Carys Hsiung, Zain Kizilbash, Greyson Sale, Nyx Wells, and James Welsh. They are among the top 16,000 high scorers on the PSAT from the fall of the student's junior year. Semifinalists complete an application to move on to the Finalist competition; Finalists will be announced in spring 2026.
The twelve Commended Students are Lucille Brooks, Thomas Chen, Johann DeVriese, William Hanna, Ethan He, Trevor Hou, Sonia Kharbanda, Annika Kim, Shefali Meagher, Leah Passe, Johnny Rog, and Huxley Westemeier. They are among the next 34,000 high scorers nationwide on the Junior fall PSAT.
