Welcoming our new Lower School faculty

Meet the new faculty that will join St. Paul Academy and Summit School's Lower School on the Goodrich Campus this fall.

Jake Ban, Assistant Principal: Jake is the new Lower School Assistant Principal and recently completed a year-long Principal internship at Maria L. Baldwin Elementary School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has spent the last ten years teaching Grades 3 through 5, both at the Aspire East Palo Alto Charter School in East Palo Alto, California and most recently at the San Francisco Friends School. His interest in educational administration led him to Harvard University's School Leadership Program, where he is now completing a master’s. in education. Jake also holds a master’s in education from Stanford University and a bachelor’s in educational studies and sociology & anthropology from Swarthmore College.

Sarah Dobesh, Grade 1/2 Homeroom: Sarah is joining the Lower School team as a Grade 1/2 homeroom teacher and comes to SPA after spending the past four years teaching at St. Hubert School in Chanhassen. Sarah earned her bachelor's in Elementary Education at the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University and is currently completing her master's in Education at St. Mary's University.

Tamara Dominguez, Spanish: Tamara comes to SPA from the Twin Cities German Immersion School, where she taught Spanish. Tamara graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Spanish Language and holds certification from the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examination for Spanish K-12. 

Tristan Gavin, Learning Specialist: For the past four years, Tristan has brought thoughtfulness and care for the whole child to his work, serving as a Learning Specialist at the Bertschi School in Seattle, Washington. Tristan holds a bachelor's in English from Whitman College and master's in Elementary Education and Teaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education.

Drew Lundquist, Grade 1/2 Homeroom: Drew should be a familiar name to the Upper School community as he served as a Varsity Volleyball coach last season but is new to the Lower School.  Prior to SPA, Drew was a Grade 3 and 4 teacher at the Journey School in St. Paul.  He completed his Elementary Education degree at the University of Minnesota-Morris and is currently pursuing a master’s in Educational Leadership at Concordia University.

Anna Ruhland, Kindergarten (KA): Anna has been a trusted Teaching Assistant, Substitute Teacher, and Adventure Kids staff member at SPA over the years and will transition well into her new role as a homeroom teacher in KA this year.  Anna received her bachelor's in Art History with a minor in Women’s Studies from St. Catherine’s University. 

Meg Tietz, Music & Movement: Meg’s music teaching career began in Minnesota in District 112 in Chaska, and she now comes to SPA following teaching positions in Texas and Maryland. She is a frequent presenter for local Orff chapter workshops and conferences for teachers, and also teaches Orff Schulwerk levels at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Metro State University in Denver, and the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. Meg holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education, both from the University of St. Thomas.
