On Thursday, December 8, SPA senior Julia Colbert '23 was one of 25 young women honored at the Target EPIC awards ceremony at Target Headquarters. Target Women in Science and Technology recognizes young women in the Twin Cities area who are EPIC (engaged, passionate, innovative, and curious) about STEM fields. Students were selected based on the following criteria:

Engaged: Active contribution or influence in a STEM community in or out of school.
Passionate: Learns and shares knowledge through mentoring, club participation, or other extracurricular activities.
Innovative: Invents, designs, builds, researches, or improves using STEM concepts.
Curious: Eagerly seeks new opportunities to learn and grow.

Julia was also selected for her impact in STEM at SPA and her impressive class work: an independent study project (chewing gum that cleans teeth), math and computer science classes (advanced statistics and programming), and finally her work establishing a middle school intro to engineering program for underrepresented middle school girls last spring. Julia plans to study applied math and data analytics next fall.

Congratulations, Julia!
