Girls' hockey wins Section 6AA Academic Award

The girls' United hockey team--a co-op team between SPA and Minnehaha Academy--is the winner of the Section 6AA Academic Award for earning the highest GPA of any team in the section.

According to United Head Coach Dan Berthiaume, the award is given by the Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association (MGHCA) to recognize female hockey players as students and the importance of excelling academically. Normally the award is handed out at the Ms. Hockey Banquet, but there is no banquet this year due to the pandemic. United competes in Section 6AA along with Edina, Benilde St. Margaret, Cretin-Derham Hall, Wayzata, Blake, Hopkins/Park, and Osseo/Park Center. United won the Academic Award for having the highest composite GPA of all those teams.

"Our United hockey players are a tremendously well-rounded group of young ladies," says Berthiaume. "They excel not only on the ice, but in the classroom and in their communities."
