Academic practices, procedures, and policies

Making a schedule change

A

Finding your locker combination

A

Your advisor has a copy of your combination; also, you can check with Ms. Harness or Dean Cummins

Obtaining a parking sticker

A

Ms. Edhlund, the receptionist will give you a parking permit to fill out; when you return it to her, she will give you a SPA parking sticker

Dropping an athletic commitment

A

Consult with Ms. Mason, the Registrar

Becoming ill at school

A

See the Dean who will call your parents and obtain permission for you to leave school; you must sign out outside the Deanery

Q

An appointment during the school day

A

We encourage you to avoid scheduling appointments during class time; however, if it is unavoidable, bring a note to the Dean at the beginning of the day for approval and sign out outside the Deanery

Absence/attendance

A

Consult the US Handbook on attendance policy and procedures to follow when you are absent from school

Joining a student group/activity

A

Watch the Blue sheet for club announcements during X period on Thursdays. Talk to the faculty advisor (the name is listed in the US Handbook), Dean of Students, Judy Cummins or just attend a meeting.

Arranging for a friend to visit SPA with you

A

Consult with Dean of Students, Judy Cummins, at least 2 days in advance for permission. On day of visit, pick up a name tag for your visitor at the Dean’s office and introduce your guest to the Dean.

Putting an announcement in the Blue Sheet

A

Give announcements, signed by an US faculty member, to Maurine Hatting, Middle School Secretary, at least one day in advance.

Making an announcement in Assembly

A

Speak with Dean of Students, Judy Cummins in advance of the assembly to get on the agenda.

Technology
For laptop repair

A

Phones

A

Students may use the phone outside the Head of School’s office for brief calls; or check with any adult if you need to make a private phone call.
Cell phones are not permitted during the school day (from 8:00am to 3:00pm)
