Why I Give: Faculty and Staff

Mary Hill, Director of College Counseling

"I've always prioritized my giving toward causes that benefit young people, since I believe an educated public is the key to the future well-being of our society. There is a strong sense of tradition and community wrapped up in the idea that those who benefit from a school or college contribute to ensure the same experience for future generations. I like the sense of contributing to that legacy through my financial support as well as my work in College Counseling, as a symbol that I'm part of the community—and that I can make a difference for others.

"Having worked in education for my entire career—at SPA as well as private liberal arts colleges—I know the necessity of donor support to make such high quality education a reality for deserving students. Tuition doesn't cover the costs.

“SPA graduates are extremely well-prepared not only for success in college, but to be thoughtful, engaged citizens. We teach lifelong skills of effective communication, critical thinking, and imagination. Our students write well, know how to solve problems, and have learned to be self-advocates. They also just genuinely appreciate their education; they are curious, thinking people, and I like that about them. All of these skills and that open-minded disposition are invaluable in responding to challenge in our world."
