Lower School Student Life

For SPA's youngest students, life outside the classroom grows as they do. From Kindergarten on, students attend twice-weekly all-school assemblies which provide frequent opportunities to appreciate and celebrate their schoolmates' performances and accomplishments. The Private Music Program offers on-site instruction on a wide variety of instruments, and all students may attend the Adventure Kids Program for additional care outside of school hours.

When students enter Grade 3, student life expands. Grades 3-5 participate in the beloved Mini program, choosing elective courses at least four times per year in areas that interest them.  Grade 5 students emcee the weekly assemblies, and can also participate in interscholastic athletic teams.

Special events for both students and families are an integral part of student life in the Lower School. Some events are classroom-based and take place during the school day, and others are for students and families after school. The Lower School Parent Association also sponsors a number of special events throughout the school year that connect families to the school and to each other. Explore the slideshows below to learn more about a few of the special events that contribute to student life in the Lower School.

Homecoming: Each year, the Lower School celebrates Homecoming with a special "Blue and Gold" assembly and field activities.

Pumpkin Carving: Students in Grade 12 visit the Lower School to help Kindergartners carve pumpkins for Halloween.

On Grandparent and Special Persons Day, Lower School students share SPA with their grandparents and other special friends.

The Hour of Code is a world-wide event to raise awareness and promote computer science education. The annual Lower School event is interactive and intergenerational.

The Lower School Bazaar is one of the highlights of the year. Bazaar is a school-wide carnival and sale hosted by Grade 5 students.

Final Assembly is time for family, friends, teachers, and staff members to send off the fifth graders who have ably led the Lower School.
