How to Apply

We are pleased that you have decided to become a candidate for admission to St. Paul Academy and Summit School. Below are the steps in the application process and important dates and deadlines to remember. Questions? Don't hesitate to contact any Admission staff member.

Call or e-mail any one of us to request an Admission Information Packet, or request a Packet online. You will receive your Packet in the mail about a week after making your request. Please read carefully through all the material in the Packet, which will include a wealth of information about SPA and a set of Admission forms to complete and send back to us by the application deadline, which is February 1, 2017.

As you are reviewing the material in your Packet, we also encourage parents and students to take some time to review the information on this website. The Discover SPA section will familiarize you with our school culture and the overall SPA experience; the Academic Life section contains a great deal of information about our curriculum and the classroom experience; and the Student Life section provides an introduction to the many opportunities we offer outside the classroom, including an overview of our robust athletics program. Other good sources of information are our online News feed, which has information about recent happenings at school; and the twice-yearly SPA Magazine, which features stories about SPA students, teachers, and alumni/ae.

Add the dates for our Open Houses to your calendar, and plan to attend at least one--Open Houses are for both students and their parents. Attending an Open House is a valuable way for the entire family to learn a lot about the school in a short time. Open House dates for 2016-17 are:

8:30-10:30 a.m., Goodrich Campus

Contact us to set up a personal tour for your family. During your family tour, an Admission staff member will show you our campus, take you into classrooms to listen and observe, and answer your questions in a more personalized setting than an Open House. Tours of both campuses are offered daily; optimal times to tour are between 8:15 a.m. and noon.

Students applying for Grades 1-12 will also join us for a shadow day. The student shadow day is an opportunity for your student to spend an entire school day at SPA, guided and hosted by a current student. Applicants for Grades 6-12 will also have a conversation with a member of the Admission staff during their shadow day.

Schedule your student's assessment and testing, the details of which will vary according to the grade for which the student is applying.

  • Kindergarten assessment includes an individual assessment and a play group observation.  Individual assessments are with a member of our admission staff and take about 30 minutes. These assessments are held on school days throughout December, January, and February. Play group observations take place at SPA on specific weekends in January and February, and last about 60 minutes.
  • Grade 1-2 applicants complete an assessment with a member of our admission staff during their shadow day.
  • Grade 3-5 applicants take a series of admission tests to assess verbal and quantitative reasoning skills. Testing dates are scheduled on specific Saturdays throughout January and February.
  • Grade 6-12 applicants take a series of admission tests to assess verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, and quantitative reasoning skills. Applicants will also complete a writing assessment. Testing dates are scheduled on specific Saturdays throughout January and February.
For more information about testing and assessment, see our Admission FAQ page or contact a member of the Admission staff.

Submit the Biographical Information sheet, in the application packet, as soon as possible; receipt of this sheet allows us to open a file for your student.  All application materials to the Admission Office by February 1, 2017.  Applications submitted after February 1 will be considered based on availability
