The Lower School hosted four student teachers from Seoul National University in South Korea this winter for a two-week academic experience. During their time at SPA, the Korean student-teachers learned from the Lower School homeroom and specialist teachers, taught lessons on Korea in their classroom placements, and led songs and dances in assembly.
The Global Teacher Education Program (GTEP) is a partnership program between the University of Minnesota and Seoul National University. This intensive program provides participants the opportunity to learn about innovative teaching strategies and assessments used in U.S. schools, develop further their English language proficiency, and engage in experiential learning through classroom observations and school internships. According to Lower School Principal Holly Fidler, the internship program also provides learning opportunities for the American students: "We are so grateful for community partnerships like GTEP because not only do they provide our students with windows to see the world, but they are also important mirrors to their own experiences!"
