K-12 Learning Specialist

Sarah Davies, K-12 Learning Specialist, is available to support students who have a learning disability and/or are experiencing academic difficulties. She works with parents, faculty and students directly to assist them in developing academic strategies to overcome any challenges they may encounter. She oversees accommodations that are granted to students who have documented learning disabilities, developing learning profiles and accommodation plans that align with ACT and SAT requirements. She oversees the academic coaching program which provides specialized support to assist students in developing academic skills. Her works with parents includes facilitation of a learning differences parent support group at the MS/US level and the LS level.

Lower School Counseling

Dr. Timothy Elchert joined the SPA faculty in 1980 and has served as interim principal, homeroom teacher, and school psychologist in the Lower School. Today, he can be found teaching fourth grade math and mini courses. A licensed psychologist, Dr. Elchert works with students to reach their academic and social-emotional potential. His interests include learning style differences, social-emotional development of children, building resilience, anxiety disorders, and reading instruction. Dr. Elchert earned a B.A. from Macalester College, an M.A. in counseling and psychological services from St. Mary's Graduate School, and a Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of Iowa. He is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists. In his free time, he enjoys camping, reading, hiking, birding, and spending time with his family.
