Kindergarten... A Magical Place

Kindergarten is the beginning of a student’s magical journey through the Lower School.

We travel from Monet’s Garden to the icy continent of Antarctica, and then fly off to the tropical islands of Hawaii!  In each spacious, colorful classroom, the two full-time teachers inspire students’ creativity, their commitment to high-quality work, and their love of learning. In this environment, children feel safe to learn, explore, and play.

Our unique social studies units provide the framework for our academic program. Woven into eight monthly units are a balanced curriculum of:

  • Language Arts
Phonics, handwriting, process writing, punctuation, and sight words
  • Math
Problem solving, exploration, computation, and number formation
  • Social Studies
    Geography, cultural awareness, vocabulary, artist-of-the-month,
flora and fauna, native arts, crafts, and music

Students also benefit from abundant community-based learning, from frequent field trips to special classroom visitors (as well as parent expertise). Our strong service-learning program also allows us to give back to the community.

We maintain a close relationship with the families of our kindergarteners. Families can expect regular written reports, conferences, and weekly newsletters, as well as e-mails, and informal communication. Parent volunteers are invited to contribute to our rich learning environment.

We look forward to guiding your child on this journey through St. Paul Academy and Summit School with its history of excellence and its welcoming community.
