Welcome to St. Paul Academy and Summit School!
Since joining St Paul Academy and Summit School in 2007, I've had the great pleasure of getting to know a community of intellectually curious students, supportive parents, and dedicated teachers. Although I am still relatively new to SPA and to Minnesota, I have spent most of my life in and around independent schools. My father was an English teacher who dedicated his career to inspiring students to become thoughtful readers and writers. His example continues to inform my own ideas of educational excellence. In choosing my own work, I knew that I wanted to be involved in the excitement of learning. As director of admission and financial aid, I share the excitement of students and parents who are discovering what makes SPA stand out. Many are also realizing for the first time that an independent school, which may have seemed unaffordable, is truly an option.
From the first day I visited the SPA campuses, I felt a deep commitment to teaching and to developing the close relationships that shape a young person’s life. That impression has grown even stronger after my first year here, and my goal is to help you and your family understand the lifelong advantages that come from an SPA education—and to help you through the admission process.
There are many outstanding educational choices for families in Minnesota, from public schools to charter schools to independent schools. If school comes naturally to your child, he or she will need to be pushed and challenged; if classroom learning does not come easily, your child will need support and encouragement. Our teachers and staff are dedicated to creating an environment in which each student's abilities are understood and needs are met.
We hope that this Web site opens up the school for you, so you can learn more about our faculty, staff, students, parents, and graduates. We also invite you to attend our open houses throughout the year, along with other events that highlight our activities and programs. Feel free, of course, to contact us directly if you have questions or would like additional information; if there is someone else here at the school who can give you an even fuller answer, we won’t hesitate to connect them with you. Finally, nothing replaces an in-person visit to the school. To schedule an individual conversation and tour with a member of our admission staff, please contact us by e-mail or telephone. We look forward to welcoming you to our campuses.
